Boosting Creativity with Virtual Museum Tours
Never too much of a good thing
In addition to writing fantasy romance novels, I spend a lot of time reading books and watching movies with fantasy and romance elements.
In part, because it’s important for me to stay up on what’s happening in my genre. But its also because I was a fan of fantasy romance long before I started writing it. And I still LOVE it.
But it’s important to change it up
My thoughts today are a little bit of an extension of last week’s post. Variety and a continuing effort to find fresh inspiration are an important part of fueling creativity.
So I make an effort to branch out. I try to read and watch a wide variety of authors and movies and genres.
I also try to take to time to expand beyond my usual forms of entertainment, as well.
I love to walk in the park and hike nearby trails to fill myself with the beauty of nature. I listen to music while I work. I explore new crafts and hobbies and try to study new subjects that spark my attention. But I especially love exploring museums.
Museums offer a wide variety of ways to find new inspiration
Unfortunately, where I live, my museum options are somewhat limited. Thankfully, quite a few museums around the world offer virtual tours or the ability to search collections. Art from all eras and styles. Nature and science museums. History. Folk art. If you search, you can find tours and collections to spark creativity in a million different ways.
Here a few of the museums I’ve virtually explored recently:
- The British Museum
- Science Museum
- National Women’s History Museum
- Google Art Project (While double-checking the links for this post, I accidentally got sucked into this particular feature: The Women Painters Overlooked By Art History )
What is your favorite museum? If you know of a great virtual tour drop a link in the comments or on Facebook.
