The Magic of Chia Fresca
I have been obsessed with Chia Fresca lately!
And I want to share this magical drink with everyone.
First, you probably want to know what Chia Fresca is.
At its most basic, its a drink made with chia seeds, water, fruit juice and a little sweetener.
And second…
Why am I obsessed with it?
Every year when it starts to get warmer, I get sick of tea and coffee and start looking for something a little less… hot.
And every year, I tell myself this is the year I’m going to start drinking more water. Within a week or two, though, I always find myself reaching for soda, juice, and iced coffee instead. Craving the things full of artificial colors and flavors and loaded with added sugars. Because the non-taste of water makes me crave flavor.
Chia Fresca is water, but the chia gel seems hang on to flavor of the splash of juice so much more than stirring it in to a plain old glass of H2O.
Also, according to some, chia seeds have several health benefits
Like increased hydration, omega-3s, and fiber. I’m not a nutritionist however, and health claims change really fast, nowadays. So you’re going to want to do your own research and make your own decisions about that.
Okay, so the texture of the gel is a little strange.
Once I got use to the weirdness however, I really kind of like it, now.
Here’s a basic recipe for a simple Lemon Chia Fresca
12 oz water
1 Tbsp chia seeds
Juice of one lemon
Sweetener to taste
Stir a everything together really well and put in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to let the gel set up. Stir one more time and enjoy!
